New Ownership Announcement

passing the mah jongg torch

A Letter from Lynn

Hi all you wonderful Mahj players!

I want to share (you heard it from me first) that after careful consideration, I have sold Where The Winds Blow to a wonderful new team. The decision was very difficult for me and I gave it a lot of thought. That is how I know it is the right one. Not just for me, but for customers like you, and most of all for Where The Winds Blow.

Like most major decisions in life, it was a bitter-sweet one. I loved getting to know our many customers and doing my best to grow the company.

Mike and Lee Koonce, the new owners, and their manager, Erica Hose, are amazing people with so much experience. They share the same values which Where The Winds Blow has promoted since it’s founding almost 20 years ago. They look forward to serving you in some exciting and innovative ways. They are taking the company to the next level with a drive to find new and interesting products, bring new ideas to fruition, and expand on our exceptionally great service we work so hard to provide.

As for me, I’ll still be here for a short time doing my best to support Where The Winds Blow and its new team. I’ll then be spending more time on a new project: the Mah Jongg Alliance, which is a collaboration among competitors, suppliers, authors, bloggers, teachers, and players. We’ve talked for several years about creating a new kind of Mah Jongg playing card and we’ve finally created one we hope you’ll enjoy. You can learn more about it HERE

So, as I hand the proverbial (Joker-decorated) baton into Mike, Lee, and Erica’s good hands, I ask you to join me in WELCOMING them.

A Letter from Mike

My name is Mike Koonce. My wife Lee and I are thrilled to be taking over Where the Winds Blow from Lynn Chorn. Lynn has done an amazing job shepherding the business over the last few years, building it into one of the premier on-line destinations for Mah Jongg – related products and accessories in the world. Our goal is to continue the standards that Lynn has set for selling high quality, unique and customized products and providing the highest quality customer service and a superior customer experience. We recognize that while our primary mission is to sell Mah Jongg games and accessories, our continued success will depend on the happiness and satisfaction of our customers. Lynn has assembled a great team – Erica our office manager, Frances our operations manager, Libby and Rachel who handle sales and customer service, and Mike our marketing guru. Any of us are available to answer your questions, address your concerns, and ensure that you get what you need. We will continue to operate out of Houston and our showroom will remain in place to service local customers in the Houston area. We look forward to continuing to serve you. -Mike and Lee.

A Letter from Erica

My name is Erica Hose and I am thrilled to be a part of the new team! I’m excited for the future of Where The Winds Blow and I look forward to learning more and more about the business, the customers and the Mah Jongg craze I hear so much about!

I wish Lynn the best of luck with her new endeavor with the Mah Jongg Alliance. Lynn truly is one of a kind; I’ve enjoyed learning about the customers through her eyes. She has a strong principal of customer service that Mike and I are committed to continue to provide.

The team here in Houston is amazing – if you ever have questions or need help with ordering, always feel welcome to reach out.
